Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy has been popular for years with patients who want to improve their skin’s appearance without invasive or harsh treatments. BBL HERO is more powerful – faster and more versatile than traditional IPL treatments. BBL HERO stands for broadband light (BBL) high energy rapid output (HERO). Because it uses light energy, BBL treatment is often referred to as a photofacial or photorejuvenation.
BBL HERO Light Therapy is comfortable, safe, and effective for nearly all skin types (except darkest tones). It requires no downtime. At Eterna Cosmetic Surgery, we use this treatment to:
- Repair sun-damaged skin
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduce age spots and sunspots
- Reduce enlarged pores
- Reduce scarring
- Treat rosacea and blushing or flushing
- Repair vascular or cutaneous lesions
- Tighten skin
- Reduce or remove unwanted hair
What Is BBL HERO?
BBL HERO is a non-invasive technology that does not require the skin to be ablated or vaporized to achieve desired results. It is not a single device, but an entire system that gives Dr. Hernandez multiple ways to customize treatment for patients, addressing multiple issues simultaneously, as needed. Though it is sometimes called photofacial, we can perform this treatment on almost all parts of the body. Most commonly, though, we use BBL on the face, neck, chest, and hands.
The advanced technology promotes renewed collagen production. In fact, a Stanford University study showed that BBL treatments are able to produce a more vibrant, youthful appearance because the light energy changes the structure of the genes associated with aging make-up and alters the molecular structure of the skin cells.
BBL works in the epidermis and also deeper dermis to correct pigmentation problems such as freckles, sun damage, and age spots to improve skin elasticity and produce smoother, more uniform tone and texture. Patients often see noticeable results after just one session, however most patients need 3 to 6 treatments spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart to achieve desired results.
Because treatments boost collagen and elastin, Forever Young also offers “prejuvenation” benefits. With ongoing maintenance treatments, skin cells behave like those of a younger person, delaying the visible effects of aging.
Whether you suffer from active acne or post-acne scars and redness, Forever Clear helps you regain smooth, clear skin without resorting to expensive creams or prescription medications that often have unwanted side-effects. BBL HERO:
- Addresses active acne by killing bacteria
- Improves skin appearance by reducing redness, inflammation, and scars
- Helps prevent new breakouts
For best results, we recommend 3-6 sessions, 2-4 weeks apart.
BBL Forever Clear can be used in conjunction with an exfoliating acne treatment, if the two treatments are scheduled a week apart. BBL can also be combined with HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser or ProFractional Laser therapy, and it also works well with dermal fillers.
Forever Bare BBL is well-known and popular with patients for years because it gets rid of unwanted hair anywhere, permanently. IPL targets pigment in hair and heats follicles to kill actively growing hairs. It takes multiple sessions to achieve maximum results because hair grows in phases – usually 6-10 sessions, 4-8 weeks apart.
Forever Bare is great for removing hair on large areas such as the back and legs, but gentle and precise enough for small, tender areas such as eyebrows and underarms. This treatment works on all skin types except darkest tones.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
BBL HERO is a great option for patients who want to refresh their appearance to look younger and who are looking for a comfortable, fast-acting treatment with no downtime. You may choose BBL to address one or several of the skin issues noted above.
You may not be a good candidate right now if:
- You are taking medications that cause sensitivity to light
- Have used Accutane in the past six months
- Have a dark skin tone or tan skin from sun exposure or tanning beds
What Happens During BBL Treatment?
We administer the intense pulsed light to the skin’s outer layer, promoting collagen regeneration and changing the molecular structure of the skin cells. This cutting-edge skin resurfacing technology allows us to provide the most effective treatment for each individual, helping to restore skin to its most vibrant, youthful, and rejuvenated state.
BBL HERO photofacials take between 15 and 30 minutes. We may apply a numbing cream to the area about 30 minutes before treatment to ensure maximum comfort, however, BBL HERO is the least painful laser treatment available. Patients tell us it feels something like lightly snapping the skin with a rubber band.
What Happens After BBL HERO Treatment?
Even just one treatment can help skin become clearer, tighter, and smoother. And that may be enough for you. However, everyone is different, so the number of photofacials we recommend will vary based on your specific condition and expectations. Most patients need 3 to 6 treatments, spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart.
Typically, you can resume normal daily activities immediately after treatment. At first your skin will appear darker and may look mildly red or flushed. Most redness fades in just a few hours, and any remaining pinkness will fade over the next 7-10 days. If you have darker skin, you may notice mild flaking or peeling 1-2 weeks after treatment.
We will recommend a cream or lotion you can apply to the skin immediately after treatment to promote healing, and makeup can be applied immediately after treatment to cover any remaining redness. Over the next few weeks, your skin will become smoother. Results will be more noticeable in 2 to 4 weeks.
As always, we recommend daily sunscreen use to protect your skin and promote the best results possible.
