Most of us have come to think of Botox and dermal fillers as the “dynamic duo” when it comes to facial rejuvenation and warding off the effects of continued aging. After all, everybody has a face and, therefore, everybody – all genders and even younger adults — can potentially benefit from Botox and/or fillers. However, marvelous as these treatments may be, they can’t do everything.

A comprehensive skin care routine must include additional elements if it is to be effective in keeping your skin healthy and clear and youthful-looking. That goes for all genders and all ages.

Botox and Fillers Can Do Only So Much

Botox helps prevent dynamic wrinkles from forming and makes existing wrinkles less visible. Fillers can add volume to fill in wrinkles and folds, replace cheek and under-eye and lip volume, and gently but visibly smooth or rebalance facial contours. But a good skin care plan and the right products can improve skin health and help delay loss of hydration and nutrients that cause dry, lax skin, volume loss and wrinkles.

At Eterna Cosmetic Surgery we offer complimentary skin evaluations. One of our licensed medical aestheticians will evaluate your skin and listen to your concerns, then recommend the best product regimen as well as corrective or maintenance skin treatments to help reach your personal goals.

Sunscreen Is #1

Everyone knows by now that exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet light can be dangerous as well as damaging. Using sunscreen every day, year round, will help you avoid cancers as well as premature signs of aging such as sun spots, wrinkles and skin laxity. Be sure you use a sunscreen with at least 45 SPF that protects against both UVA and UVB rays and contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Quality Counts with Skincare Products

There are lots of products on the market to clean and care for your skin, but they are not created equal. Not even close. At Eterna Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez is so committed to helping our patients get the best in skin care, she has carefully chosen two lines of medical grade products after trying and comparing multiple options.

Dr. Hernandez believes that our ZO Health product line is most effective for patients looking for top-grade sunscreen and specific help reducing hyperpigmentation, treating acne and providing all-important hydration. For example, the ZO line includes a Retinol Skin Brightener that comes in both .5% and 1% strength.

Our other line of medical grade skin care products is Neocutis. These products contain growth factors, so they are particularly well-suited to combat signs of aging and also help speed and enhance healing following skin rejuvenation treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, Morpheus8 and Renuvion skin tightening.

We also carry arnica with vitamin K, which is a great topical cream to reduce post-treatment swelling and bruising.

Facials

Facial treatments provide deeper cleansing than you can accomplish at home. They are great for an occasional “treat,” and even better when you schedule them regularly as part of ongoing skin maintenance. We offer several types of facials from the Express that revitalizes in just 30 minutes to hour-long options that focus on exfoliation, clarifying, hydrating and soothing skin. You can get a facial and then your injectable treatment (Botox or filler) right afterward on the same day. However, if you have already received injections, it is best to wait 1 to 2 weeks before getting a facial.

Healthier, Younger-Looking Skin Is Just a Consultation Away

Whether or not you are already enjoying the benefits of Botox and/or dermal fillers, a complimentary skin analysis will help you learn what else you should be doing to help your skin make the most of those injectable treatments.
