An expressive face is a good thing. It shows your emotions – happy or sad, worried or even cranky. Facial expressions add individuality and vibrancy to your persona. But over time all that muscle movement can create wrinkles on your forehead and between your eyebrows – wrinkles that make you look older and, often, tired or unhappy even if you are not. Who wants that?
For many people, these areas are the first to develop noticeable wrinkles. That means you can take action early to prevent deeper, more obvious wrinkling. Even better, at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery we can help you turn back the clock by diminishing existing wrinkles on your upper face as well as preventing new ones from forming.
You smiled when you read that, didn’t you? (We love your smile, but even that happiest of facial expressions can cause forehead and “frowny” wrinkles – all the more reason to keep reading.)
Glabellar Furrows and Frown Lines
We usually hear terms like brow and forehead, but technically the skin between your eyebrows and on your forehead is called the glabella. Muscles underneath this skin move to form facial expressions, even smiles. As these dynamic muscles move, wrinkles often appear on the surface of the skin.
Over time, wrinkles remain visible even when muscles are relaxed, as skin loses moisture, elasticity, collagen and underlying fat. You may see glabellar lines (the wavy, horizontal furrows across your forehead) and/or frown lines (the parallel lines between your eyebrows).
Whether you have glabellar or frown lines or both, at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery we offer three non-surgical corrective treatments that our patients just love. Botox is the most common, followed by Bellafill, then Morpheus8.
- Botox injections do not erase existing wrinkles, but they do minimize muscle movement to prevent further wrinkling. With precise amount and placement, you get these benefits without sacrificing your unique facial expressiveness.
- Bellafill helps diminish visible lines by filling in the wrinkles with collagen. Patients that use Botox but already have deep wrinkles on their forehead that Botox cannot completely address typically opt for a filler such as Bellafill. It is not only the right consistency for this area, it lasts 5 years.
- Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling-based treatment softens up deep lines by building up the collagen in the skin and also firming the skin. Some patients that are not interested in Botox or fillers opt for Morpheus8. Many patients use a combination of these 3 treatments.
Sometimes, Surgery Is the Best Option
Non-surgical options work beautifully for most men and women. However, if wrinkles are severe, a surgical facelift or brow lift may be the best choice. In some people aging causes the brows to move down, and the brow lift can restore low, sagging eyebrows. Surgery is the only permanent option, but you could still develop new wrinkles as you continue to age.
Preventing Pesky Forehead Wrinkles
You might have read that certain facial exercises will keep you from developing forehead furrows and glabellar lines. Really, you’re just making more facial expressions that can lead to wrinkles. Besides, no amount of exercise will restore lost collagen, fat, or elasticity.
There are also a number of over-the-counter products that claim to prevent wrinkles, thanks to ingredients such as antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and peptides that promote skin health. These products can help reduce glabellar lines minimally in some people. But wouldn’t you rather choose a treatment that works?
Botox, Bellafill and Morpheus8 not only significantly reduce existing wrinkles, they all provide a preventative effect long term.
Getting started is as easy as making a consultation appointment with Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez to discuss your forehead and rejuvenations goals. We can help you knock years off your appearance, looking smoother, happier, and refreshed.
