BBL Hero light therapy and HALO hybrid fractional laser treatment are two of our newest skin rejuvenation options at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery. Both of these treatments can produce impressive improvement for a variety of skin conditions, yet they are quite different. So, how do you know which is the right choice for you?

It depends on your specific concerns.

A Quick Overview of BBL Hero

BBL Hero uses light energy to treat pigmentation problems such as sun spots, blood vessels, freckles and aging spots, as well as acne and loss of firmness. The broadband light targets melanin in the skin. BBL can be used on Fitzpatrick skin types I (fairest) to light IV (medium complexion).

BBL Hero is more versatile than other types of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. Treatments are faster because BBL is more powerful, yet the treatment itself is comfortable. Another thing that distinguishes BBL Hero is that it is an entire system rather than a single device. This enables Dr. Hernandez to individually customize treatment to address multiple skin conditions in a single session.

BBL Hero is suitable for use on the face and elsewhere on the body, such as the neck, chest, and hands – producing clearer, smoother, and more youthful looking skin.

Post-treatment, you can apply sunscreen and makeup and can return to work. For maximum results, Dr. Hernandez recommends patients get more than one treatment – typically 3 to 6 depending on your concerns and desired results. Treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart. Regular BBL Hero treatments have also been shown to help delay visible signs of aging.

A Quick Overview of HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser

HALO works like a traditional fractional laser for anti-aging, resurfacing, correcting sun damage, and loss of firmness. “Think of it as aerating the lawn,” suggests Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez. “The laser creates channels in the skin that trigger collagen growth.”

However, HALO is unique in that its hybrid design uses two different wavelengths at the same time, one targeting the epidermis (top) skin layer, the other that targeting the deeper dermis. That makes HALO an excellent option if it will take both ablative and non-ablative treatment to achieve the resurfacing results you want to see.

Unlike other lasers, HALO can be used safely on all Fitzpatrick skin types (fairest to darkest). It is more comfortable than other fractional resurfacing lasers (virtually painless, in fact), and requires less downtime. Most of our patients return to normal activity within 24 hours.
