We love our usually-sunny San Antonio weather, but all that sun can be very hard on our skin. Aging, acne, and other factors can also leave our skin looking less than its best. At Eterna Cosmetic Surgery, we offer several types of skin rejuvenation treatments, designed to address different types of issues. But sometimes it takes more than one type of resurfacing to produce desired results.
Our HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser treatment is ideal for patients who require both ablative and non-ablative resurfacing.
What Is HALO?
HALO is the only laser technology of its kind. It is a fractional laser, which means it directly treats only a portion of the skin in the targeted area. This provides excellent results – improvement throughout the treatment area with less discomfort and faster recovery. HALO takes that a step further, with a hybrid system that delivers two wavelengths simultaneously. We can tune each of the wavelengths to fully customize treatment of both surface and subsurface issues as needed.
HALO treatment can produce surprisingly impressive, long-lasting results, yet it is safe for all skin types and the treatment itself is virtually painless.
Who Is a Good Candidate for HALO Treatment?
The fact that HALO is suitable for all skin colors, even darker tones, is another factor that sets it apart from most laser treatments. Young as well as older adults can benefit from this treatments because HALO can improve sun damage, pigmented lesions, enlarged pores, and acne scars. HALO also improves signs of aging including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven tone and texture, scars, skin discoloration including redness or brown spots from melasma. And it resurfaces the skin.
What Happens During the HALO Treatment?
Your HALO treatment will be performed by one of our laser-certified aestheticians, using a special hand-held device. The device includes highly sensitive technology that tracks motion and detects skin temperature. As we roll the handpiece over the skin, it measures constantly and recognizes when treatment is complete. This enables us to deliver precisely uniform treatment to the entire area.
We schedule patients for 1.5 hours or longer depending on how many areas we are treating. Most patients experience minimal or no discomfort. We apply a topical anesthetic an hour prior to the treatment and the hand piece features cooling technology that minimizes discomfort. Patients tend to describe the sensation they feel during the treatment session as comfortable heat or mild heat with a tingling sensation.
What Happens After a HALO Treatment?
A feeling of warmth in the skin can persist for about half an hour afterward, depending on the scope of treatment, but this will resolve naturally on its own. Swelling and redness are common and can last 2-3 days. At this time, your skin will begin to peel, a process that will finish after 3 or 4 days, revealing youthful radiant skin. Improvement will continue for weeks and months after the treatment, and the results can last for years. Future HALO treatments can further improve results.
Patients can wear makeup after 24 hours and go back to work and other normal routine within 2 days. You will need to protect your skin from exposure to sunlight and other sources of UV radiation for 24 hours (although here in San Antonio, sunscreen is always recommended).
Most patients report significant improvement in their complexion after just one HALO treatment. Some patients can achieve even more remarkable results with two treatments. Results will vary depending on the number of treatments and the severity of skin problems.
During your consultation, Dr. Hernandez will evaluate your skin, discuss your goals and options. You may prefer to have one or two more aggressive treatments or have multiple treatments that are less aggressive and achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time.
