Our hands are one of our primary forms of communication. We wave, beckon, “talk” with our hands, hug, deliver a handshake, and so much more, all with our hands.

Yet, despite how young we feel on the inside, our hands very often show some extreme effects from aging. Thinning skin and volume loss, loose, crepey skin, rough texture, age spots, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation from sun damage are just some of the frustrations many of us feel with our hands.

For those adults who are seeing some signs of aging in their hands and wish to restore a more youthful appearance. Dr. Hernandez offers hand rejuvenation to Eterna Cosmetic Surgery patients in San Antonio.

What is a Hand Rejuvenation?

Hand rejuvenation is very much a personalized treatment that addresses your specific goals and concerns. With cutting-edge treatments that require little downtime, hand rejuvenation is a powerful choice for patients who wish to restore a youthful, supple appearance to their hands. Hand rejuvenation options include:

AccuTite

AccuTite skin tightening treatment is a non-surgical procedure that provides significant skin tightening results (about 45% skin tightening). AccuTite uses radiofrequency to contract the skin and stimulate the production of collagen.

What happens during AccuTite?

During an AccuTite treatment in the Eterna Cosmetic Surgery office in San Antonio, Dr. Hernandez will use a local anesthetic to numb the skin on the back of your hands, then inserting the thin AccuTite wand through a small needle puncture wound in each hand used previously for application of the anesthetic.

Patients may elect to receive Pro-Nox treatment during their AccuTite procedure. Pro-Nox is a patient-controlled inhaled analgesia that takes effect in seconds. It offers immediate relief of pain and anxiety during the injection of the local anesthetic (which is the uncomfortable part of the procedure). The effects of Pro-Nox wear off 10 minutes after you stop inhaling it, and you will be able to immediately walk out of the clinic and drive yourself home.

Another option includes a combination of anxiety and pain medication to alleviate pain and mitigate anxiety during AccuTite. In this instance, you would need a friend or family member to drive you home.

What happens after AccuTite?

Most of the skin tightening results occur during the first 3 to 6 months after AccuTite treatment as your skin produces more collagen. Many patients report seeing improving results for up to 12 months after treatment.

Following AccuTite treatment, Dr. Hernandez will prescribe antibiotics for one day (the day of the procedure) to help prevent infection. She will apply a small dressing over the needle puncture wounds and recommends you leave on the dressing for three to four hours after your treatment, until you have to wash your hands or shower.

The small needle puncture in each hand will heal quickly and may form a small scab. Some swelling and bruising in the treated areas is expected, and will improve over the next one to two weeks. Most patients do not need pain medication after AccuTite treatment. If needed, over-the-counter painkillers like Tylenol should alleviate any discomfort.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 uses a combination of microneedling and localized heat from radiofrequency energy to tighten skin, and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin to thicken the skin and reduce signs of aging. It also helps lighten or clear up sun damage spots, evening the color of your skin.

You may choose to undergo a series of Morpheus8 treatments for optimal results. Dr. Hernandez often recommends combining Morpheus8 with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to enhance the results of treatment. Depending on your specific needs, you can also combine Morpheus8 and AccuTite treatments for even more dramatic results.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer can rejuvenate your hands by adding back lost volume that occurs naturally with aging. The technique used is similar to a facial fat transfer, where Dr. Hernandez performs liposuction on a small area of the body (typically the abdomen or outer thighs), processes the fat using a filter to remove fibrous tissue, and then injects the fat using small needles and syringes similar in size as the ones used to injectable dermal fillers.

Immediately following your fat transfer procedure, you will notice some degree of swelling and a “full” feeling. This is normal, and is partially because Dr. Hernandez will overfill slightly. This is because your body will typically absorb only about 40% of the grafted fat injected into your hands.

Small needle punctures used to inject the fat will heal quickly and some bruising can occur. Following fat transfer to the hands, Dr. Hernandez recommends two days of downtime, including the day of your procedure, to rest and allow your hands to heal. The new volume in your hands from this procedure can last up to five years.

Bellafill

Bellafill is a collagen-based dermal filler that provides immediate volume and lift, while also stimulating the production of natural collagen in your hands. Bellafill is a popular choice among Dr. Hernandez’s patients, as results last 5 years or longer.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler deemed safe by the FDA to add volume and help reduce wrinkles on the back of your hands. Radiesse is also a bio-stimulant, which stimulates collagen production in the tissues. Results can last up to 1 year.

PRP Injections

Dr. Hernandez offers both platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections or topical PRP for hand rejuvenation. PRP can be lathered on the skin after a Morpheus8 treatment (or after Skin Pen microneedling) to augment results, as it is well absorbed into the skin through microscopic needle punctures created during Morpheus8. This allows PRP to reach the deep cell layers of your skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

PRP contains stem cells, growth factors, and nutrients that nourish your skin from the inside out and encourage it to thrive. PRP can also be injected without microneedling or Morpheus8. Some patients even choose topical PRP treatment in addition to PRP injections for the most powerful results during a Morpheus8 treatment or microneedling.

HydraFacial MD treatment

HydraFacial MD treatment uses serums to target and improve specific skin problems, like wrinkles, fine lines, dehydrated skin, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, sun damage and brown spots. This powerful treatment truly makes your skin glow.

HydraFacial treatment works extremely well, even for the most sensitive skin types. This treatment option takes only 30-minutes, and patients will see results almost immediately.  With no downtime or discomfort, this is one of Dr. Hernandez’s most popular hand rejuvenation treatments!

This treatment infuses the skin on your hands with essential moisture, vitamins, and antioxidants. These help your skin fight the early signs of aging, while protecting your skin from environmental pollution and the harmful effects of free radicals. The infusion of moisture keeps your skin smooth and soft, while increasing its elasticity to prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
