Have you looked into laser hair removal in the past, only to be disappointed because the procedure doesn’t work for your skin tone or hair color? Laser technology has revolutionized skin resurfacing in so many ways, but up till now we always had to qualify many of these treatments – especially something like hair removal – because lasers could not provide effective results for everyone.

Not anymore! Finally, there’s a laser hair removal option that works for almost everyone. The state-of-the-art Triton system we have at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery is effective for all skin types and tones Fitzpatrick scale skin types I-VI, including medium and dark complexions.

You, too, Can Be a Great Candidate for Laser Hair Removal

Triton uses a dual system specifically designed to effectively remove a wider range of hair types and skin types. We can treat:

  • Dark hair
  • Light hair
  • Fine hair
  • Coarse hair (something other lasers cannot treat well)
  • Stubborn hair
  • Medium complexions and skin thickness
  • Large body areas such as the chest, back, and legs
  • Small, sensitive body areas such as the upper lip

Hair color still does affect results, explains Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez, because the hair follicle needs pigmentation for the laser to effectively target it. You can expect to achieve fantastic results if you have brown or black hair on your face or body. However, the Triton laser system is less effective if your skin and hair color are too similar, since the laser can’t effectively target the follicles. Therefore, blonde and red hair are more resistant. White and grey hair will not respond to laser hair removal.

Triton Is Better and Safer for Darker Skin

The reason you may have been told in the past that lasers aren’t right for you is that they target pigment, as noted above. For patients with darker skin, there was increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Our Triton system eliminates this concern because it uses a unique combination of higher power and multiple wavelengths simultaneously. It is the only FDA cleared device that works in this way.

As with other types of laser devices, it does take more than one treatment to remove all the hair from a given area. Hair grows in phases, and the laser can only destroy actively-growing follicles. Multiple treatment sessions give us a chance to target new sets of growing hairs. Once treatments are complete, laser hair removal is virtually permanent. In the future you may see a few hairs reappear, but we can easily target and remove them for you if that happens.

We Make Sure You’re a Great Candidate

Here at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery, we always do a skin evaluation first as part of all consultations and use that as a basis to discuss your hair removal goals. We’ll explain the Fitzpatrick skin type scale so you can get a better understanding of your own skin beyond what you see in the mirror every day.

Skin evaluation helps Dr. Hernandez determine the best treatment plan, because she can customize the laser delivery device – each of the three wavelengths and the amount of power — to address your specific hair removal concerns.

Now that you know you’re probably a great candidate for laser hair removal after all, why not schedule a consultation to learn more? You could say goodbye to the ongoing hassle and discomfort of shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, etc. once and for all.
