Scars happen. Acne might be the most common source of scarring, but injuries and surgical procedures also produce scars. If your scars are visible to others, especially on your face, they can make you feel self-conscious. We don’t want that, so at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery we offer Profractional, Morpheus8 and SkinPen microneedling treatments that minimize the appearance of scars, anywhere on the body.

All three of these skin rejuvenation options are non-surgical, versatile and very effective. Which treatment we would recommend for you depends on your specific skin concerns, severity of scarring, skin laxity and how much downtime you are willing to undergo.

The type of scar is also a consideration. Scars vary in size and thickness and they can be accompanied by redness or inflammation, especially acne scars. There are different types of acne scars, too. They can be flat and shallow, be broad or narrow but deep so that skin appeared pitted, or create a wavy, uneven surface. The right treatment can address all of these.

Profractional

Our team here at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery is especially impressed with Profractional’s ability to improve the appearance of all types of scars on the face and body. This treatment also helps to soften thick scars and lighten the discoloration (hyperpigmentation of scars), as it blends better with the surrounding skin.

Profractional is a type of laser technology that targets only a small portion of the skin within the target area, so treatment is gentler, faster and safer. Nonetheless, fractional treatment stimulates the body to produce healthy new skin cells that are firmer and smoother throughout the treatment area. Depending on your scarring and desired goals, Profractional can help you make subtle changes or see dramatic improvement. That said, because it is less aggressive than full-ablation lasers, many patients require more than one Profractional treatment to achieve maximum results.

Profractional is safe and effective for most skin tones.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 combines traditional microneedling with precise radiofrequency heat to treat scars both on and beneath the surface. The treatment helps build collagen so it effectively improves scars that are flat and thin and also helps to fill in acne scars so they are less noticeable. Morpheus8 not only reaches deeper levels of skin, the radiofrequency heat molds fat. This treatment provides more comprehensive results, including more collagen production and firming, with fewer treatments than Skin Pen microneedling alone can produce. Morpheus8 is safe and effective for all skin types and tones.

SkinPen Microneedling

Younger patients who are looking to improve the appearance of acne scars and not necessarily firm the surrounding skin can achieve great results with SkinPen microneedling. This popular treatment is highly customizable, as Dr. Hernandez can vary the needle depth according to scar type. The microscopic wounds created trigger the body’s healing response, resulting in new blood vessels and skin cells that are healthier and smoother than the previous scar tissue. Microneedling is also safe and effective for all skin types and tones.

Got More than Scars?

Reducing the appearance of acne scars on your face, back or shoulders may be your primary goal. Or maybe you have a scar from an old injury or surgery or stretch marks you want to minimize. Profractional, Morpheus8 and Skin Pen microneedling are all effective scar treatments. But they are also quite versatile, we can use them to improve more than scars – during the same treatment session — which makes these options even more effective and convenient.
