Cellulite Treatments in San Antonio

Frustratingly, no matter how fit and healthy your lifestyle is, the vast majority of women suffer from cellulite. In fact, an estimated 85% of all women over the age of 20 have some cellulite! It can be extremely frustrating when you exercise and have a healthy lifestyle and still see the dimpled, lumpy appearance of cellulite on your body.

At Eterna Cosmetic Surgery, we are pleased to offer four treatment options to help you get rid of that cellulite. Why four? Well, most people don’t realize there are different types of cellulite. The underlying cause is the same: fibrous bands that connect your skin to tissue underneath are woven throughout fat in your thighs and buttocks. They can pull down your skin, resulting in the uneven appearance of cellulite.

Your cellulite may look deeply puckered, dimpled, crepey, or wavy. You may even have more than one type of cellulite. With multiple treatment options at hand, Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez can precisely address, and diminish, your specific cellulite issues.

Subcision

Subcision is a minimally-invasive procedure that has been used for years to treat cellulite. Dr. Hernandez identifies and marks cellulite dimples before the procedure. Then, after administering numbing solution, she delicately cuts the fibrous bands under your skin with a specialized needle. This causes the cellulite dimples to bounce back, smoothing the skin’s appearance. The procedure is fast and requires minimal downtime, though patients usually experience some bruising and minor pain for a few days.

Hyperdilute Radiesse

Radiesse is a popular injectable dermal filler, a thick gel that contains microscopic particles of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) which stimulate collagen production in the skin. However, by thinning the gel with local anesthetic, Dr. Hernandez can use it to effectively treat cellulite. Hyperdilute Radiesse works in two ways — firming the skin by stimulating collagen production and adding volume in the treated areas — to improve the look of wavy cellulite. It works for stretch marks, too.

Results of Hyperdilute Radiesse last 18 months or longer. The body metabolizes the CaHA particles completely after 18 months, but skin texture and tone continue to improve because new collagen production can last longer. Patients can be retreated in the future as needed.

Renuva Adipose Matrix

Renuva is also an injectable dermal filler, but it is a very different product. Where most fillers are based on hyaluronic acid and work only to restore lost volume, Renuva is composed of allograft adipose matrix which is derived from human fat that contains natural growth factors. So Renuva not only restores volume, it stimulates production of new fat cells and blood vessels in subsurface skin layers. The result is a smoother surface appearance. Renuva can be a good treatment option for smaller areas of dimpled cellulite.

Cellfina®

Cellfina® is a thoroughly modern version of subcision that is more precise. Instead of manually cutting the fibrous bands that cause cellulite, Dr. Hernandez can use a vacuum-assisted handheld device to insert a microblade below your skin to release each band. Cellfina® is the only FDA-cleared, one-time procedure clinically proven to improve the appearance of dimple-type cellulite in the thighs and buttocks for at least 5 years. Patient satisfaction with their results is exceptional. Treatment sessions typically take about 45 minutes.

Which Cellulite Treatment Should You Choose?

You are an ideal candidate for cellulite treatment if you live a healthy lifestyle and are looking to diminish the unsightly appearance of this common skin condition. In general, Dr. Hernandez suggests that:

  • Patients who have a few (3 or fewer) deep cellulite dimples are good candidates for subcision with use of local anesthetic.
  • Large, deep dimples are best treated with a combination of subcision followed by injection of Renuva Adipose Matrix to add volume and provide optimal correction.
  • Patients who have a lot of deep cellulite dimples are the best candidates for Cellfina® cellulite treatment. Many patients have both deep and subtle cellulite and require a combination of these treatments. These can be done during the same treatment session.
  • Patients who have more subtle, wavy-type cellulite are better candidates for Hyperdilute Radiesse treatment.

However, since everyone’s situation is different, you will want to schedule a personal visit with Dr. Hernandez so she can see your skin in person. Then, she can recommend the best treatment plan to help you say goodbye to cellulite and restore smoother skin once again.
