ProFractional XC Laser Treatment in San Antonio

ProFractional lasers can effectively improve several types of skin imperfections, including fine lines and wrinkles and dark spots that appear as we get older or spend time outdoors. However, at Eterna Cosmetic Surgery, we particularly like ProFractional for reducing the appearance of facial and body acne scars, surgical scars and traumatic scars.

What Is ProFractional XC?

Most lasers used for resurfacing skin target the entire treatment area. In some cases, this full-surface ablation can cause heat-induced hyperpigmentation or prolonged redness and inflammation. Fractional lasers work differently, targeting a series of tiny areas within the treatment zone. The surrounding skin remains intact, which helps reduce discomfort during the procedure and the risk of unwanted after-effects. It also allows the skin to heal faster.

Despite the fractional, gentler nature of the treatment itself, ProFractional replaces old, damaged skin or scar tissue with thicker, firmer, healthy skin throughout the entire treated area. Results can range from subtle to amazing.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

The ideal candidate for this treatment has signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, age spots, or scarring from acne, surgery, or traumatic injury. The best candidates desire a non-surgical treatment and are okay with potentially needing more than one treatment for best results. Because ProFractional lasers are gentler, this treatment is suitable for a wider range of skin tones than other types of lasers.

What Happens During ProFractional Treatment?

As Dr. Elizabeth Hernandez moves the device over the skin’s surface, precisely-controlled heat energy creates microscopic ablative channels in the skin. These tiny wounds trigger natural healing, with new collagen that helps grow and support smooth, healthy skin.

Dr. Hernandez can fine-tune both treatment depth and speed as she works, enabling her to deliver precisely tailored results according to each patient’s skin condition and desires. The ProFractional device also uses a sapphire cooling system that keeps skin temperature safely cool and comfortable throughout the procedure.

ProFractional treatment sessions usually take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the skin condition being addressed. Because this treatment is a gentler option than full-ablation techniques, patients often benefit from multiple sessions to achieve optimal results.

What Happens After ProFractional Treatment?

Downtime is minimal with this treatment. Following treatment, you can expect 1 to 7 days of pinkness, depending on the depth of treatment required to achieve your desired results. The healthy skin in between the laser pulses allows for more rapid healing following fractionated lasers. Our patients can usually go back to work and resume other normal routines within 3 days.
