Age and other factors have a dramatic effect on our skin. In particular, loss of elastin and collagen as we age can cause loose, crepey skin. Genetics, weight loss, and other factors can also impact skin laxity. This loose skin is especially noticeable (and bothersome) on our arms. Dreaded “bat wings” cause many women to cover up and hide their arms in the summertime.
What a shame!
With today’s advancements, Dr. Hernandez is able to deliver exceptional results for many women who desire more slender, toned arms without the hassle, cost, and risks of surgery. To help you determine the best option for your situation and goals, let’s take a closer look at this cutting-edge, Scarless Arm Lift with BodyTite, and compare it to a traditional surgical arm lift.
What is a traditional arm lift?
Arm lift surgery, also referred to as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that creates a more aesthetically-pleasing look for your arms. First, Dr. Hernandez uses liposuction to remove excess fat from under your arms. Then, she surgically removes excess skin and contours the connective tissues of the arms.
What is a scarless arm lift?
A scarless arm lift is a minimally-invasive in-office procedure that uses cutting-edge BodyTite technology to firm the skin all around the arms and melt the fat without surgery. Together with BodyTite PRO, Dr. Hernandez uses liposuction to remove excess fat and Morpheus8 to further tighten the skin and create a more toned, pleasing appearance. A scarless arm lift truly uses every cutting-edge technology available to deliver results as close to those from surgery as possible.
When would someone choose a traditional arm lift or a scarless arm lift?
There are several factors that can influence whether someone chooses a traditional arm lift versus a scarless arm lift. Some patients prefer non-surgical options whenever possible. A scarless arm lift is minimally invasive, with two very minor incisions strategically placed in the natural folds of your arms. Downtime is minimal, and recovery is less strenuous than for a surgical arm lift.
Patients who have mild or moderate skin laxity due to aging, weight loss, or other factors are often ideal candidates for a scarless arm lift. Dr. Hernandez is able to deliver near-surgical results using these cutting-edge technologies, without the downtime, scarring, and risk of a traditional arm lift.
For patients who have lost extreme amounts of weight, they are often faced with severe skin laxity due to damaged elastin and collagen fibers. Dr. Hernandez will conduct a physical examination to make specific recommendations; however, if you are suffering from severe skin laxity, the best course of action to deliver optimal results is most often a traditional arm lift.
How is recovery different from a scarless arm lift versus a traditional arm lift?
Recovery from a traditional arm lift is as you might expect after any surgical procedure. Patients are advised to take twol weeks off of work, and will need ample rest. Drains are often placed to alleviate fluid buildup, and you will wear a compression garment for several weeks to help with swelling.
Following a scarless arm lift, your recovery is quite different! Results are immediate; however, final results from Morpheus8 may take 3 to 6 months to appear, as your body is stimulated to firm up and produce more collagen. Dr. Hernandez recommends taking a few days to rest following liposuction, and you may experience some minor discomfort, tenderness, and bruising.
For patients with mild to moderate skin laxity, results from a scarless arm lift are extremely close to the results of a traditional arm lift.
